For our readers that don't know what Eid al-Adha means, its the " "Festival of the Sacrifice", Also called the "Sacrifice Feast" or "Bakr-Eid", is the second of two Muslim holidays celebrated worldwide each year, and considered the holier of the two. It honours the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son, as an act of submission to God's command, before God then intervened, through his angel Jibra'il (Gabriel) and informs him that his sacrifice has already been accepted. The meat from the sacrificed animal is preferred to be divided into three parts. The family retains one third of the share; another third is given to relatives, friends and neighbours; and the remaining third is given to the poor and needy." (Wikipedia) This Eid also signifies the end of Hajj (pilgrimage).
Sometimes I feel resentment or anger or selfishness, I always think of what God asked Abraham; “If you love me, you would do this for me.” So as a slave of Allah, if I felt love for God, I could easily swallow my pride, anger or pain, for His love and submit to Him. It is such a small sacrifice for me to submit to God and that my love for Him supersedes everything.
So for this Eid, I ask you; what would you sacrifice for God's love? Would you sacrifice money, time, love?
As always I will leave you with a video on Eid ul Adha by Nouman Ali Khan (my fav!) about the importance of this Eid.
Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating.
