Let's start with the positives. This liquid lipstick will not budge at all, no matter what! You can eat, drink, talk, kiss with this product and it will not move from your mouth. The applicator is very nicely shaped so you can get accurate application, although I would always recommend lining your lips first. The product itself is smooth and goes on evenly and it doesn't bleed. There is no weird smell or taste to the liquid lipstick as well, which is a huge bonus as I'm very sensitive to smells. The price is high for a liquid lipstick but when you compare this product to other competitors such as Anastasia Beverly Hills and Stila, the price isn't as high but comparable.
Now here comes all the negatives; This product is so drying! I found it unbearably drying to the point where I just wanted to scrape it off my lips. I like a lighter and smoother liquid lipstick such as the ABH and Stila lipsticks, where your lips look supple and kissable but the Kat Von D was uber drying. The only way I could wear the liquid lipstick was when I added some lip balm before application and added a swipe on top. One of the reasons it stays on your lips for hours on end is because it's so drying, but I did not like how uncomfortable it was on my lips. Since, it is so dry, I felt that you could see every line and wrinkle on my mouth and it made my mouth seem smaller, rather than giving me a full and pouty look.
Also, with any liquid lipstick, exfoliation is key. You can buy a lip exfoliate or use some brown sugar & honey mixture and rub it softly against your lips. A liquid lipstick picks up any dead skin that is on your lips and so it can give you a more clumpy and cakey appearance, as opposed to a smooth finish. With the Kat Von D, I personally found that it was cakey and and the more you touch it up, the worse it gets.
The liquid lipstick removed easily with a swipe of micellar water on a cotton pad or even by using a makeup remover on a wipe. My lips felt so dry and uncomfortable after removing it that I skipped wearing any lipstick the next day and just wore lip balm so, my lips could get some relief.
I'm so sad that I don't love this product because the colours are so rich and beautiful. Seriously who doesn't love Lolita? Would I buy this product again? I would be apprehensive and I would rather buy ABH or Stila instead, but would I give up my Lolita? nope, never...it's too beautiful! I will just have to remember to exfoliate before wearing the lipstick and to add some lip balm before applying the shade.
I would recommend that you do try out this product as most people love the Kat Von D liquid lipsticks but be forewarned, your mouth may hate you for it.
P.S. With all these matte lipsticks entering into the market, does anyone else miss the traditional lipsticks? You know the ones where you would kiss someone and you leave a mark? I miss those times but maybe I'm too old school.
