I finally got to try on a Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick! These are a huge rage on Instagram and with many bloggers so, I couldn't wait to buy my own. I ordered my lipstick from Sephora but you can also buy directly from Huda's shop online.
According to Huda, the liquid lipstick is infused with "antioxidants and an exclusive complex to help maintain the lips' hydration. The lightweight formula glides on a thin coat of color that intensifies as it sets to a matte, transfer-free finish with amazing staying power. You might even forget you're wearing anything on your lips at all! The must-have shades can be worn alone or combined to create the perfect color for any occasion."
I had to guess the colour since, I was not able to try it on before ordering. I ordered the colour in "Famous," as it's a beautiful burgundy and I checked out a few swatches online. A great trick to ordering a colour which you can't try on in real life, is to try to find someone that has the same skin tone as you and check out their swatches. This doesn't guarantee that it will come out the same on your lips, since we all have different types of pigmentation, but it can help you decide better. Also, the colour of any liquid lipstick does change once it is set.
I recently went to Sephora and I was so happy to see that they have now started carrying the liquid lipsticks on their shelves (they were all sold out though!) and they had testers.
Ok so now to my review....I didn't like it (Wahhhhhh!). I tried it on and the lipstick was very thin and see-through which I didn't like at all. Also, I started feeling a tingly sensation in my lips when I applied the lipstick, which I ignored....in retrospect I shouldn't have!
I liked the applicator because it's very precise and you can control the liquid. The application was very smooth and the lipstick has a vanilla smell to it. It took a while to dry (longer than the Stila and Kat Von D) but I thought it could be because the lipstick is infused with oils. After waiting a while, I added another coat so the lipstick wasn't see-through but it didn't work at all. I found the formula too watery and thin.
After removing the lipstick my lips were so chapped and sore so I knew there was something in the product that didn't suit me. My lips were sore for a few days and once they had healed, I tried the lipstick again; but the result was the same. I went back to Sephora to try the other lipsticks in case I just had a bad batch but it was still the same. I'm not sure what is in the product that is causing an allergic reaction but I knew that these lipsticks were not for me.
They are on the thinner side and I found the pigmentation to not be as great. The price of the lipstick is comparable to Stila and Kat Von D yet it didn't live up to the hype at all.
I'm going to stick to my Stila and Kat Von D and unfortunately I will not be trying these lipsticks again.
