Guys, I have been wearing the wrong size for ages! Honestly, no wonder I have back issues all the time and I'm always tugging and pulling on my bra. The last time I got myself sized was a few years ago but ever since then my body has changed so much and I've filled out in some places but I've been wearing the same bra.
I've actually gone up 2 sizes and the fit is so perfect now! When the bra specialist first recommended that I had to go up in size, I have to tell you the truth, I think I argued with her for 10 minutes and told her it was impossible as I have started to work out more so it should be the opposite. After arguing with her for what seemed like ages, she told me to try the bra and shut the door on me and honestly I am so grateful she ignored everything I was saying! I think as women we always think we know our bodies better than anyone else; which we do sometimes, but not always! What I didn't realize was that the bra that I was wearing before didn't even provide me with coverage at all....I always thought it was normal to have side boob/armpit fat but apparently that's breast tissue!
I just want to thank the lovely girl at Victoria's Secret for helping me out and ignoring all of my very random comments.
There are some great tips provided by Martha Stewart on bra's:
"You might think your bra fits fine and that tugging at dangling straps is a sad fact of life. But you'd be surprised: Eight out of 10 women wear the wrong size bra, according to Wacoal, one of the largest underwear manufacturers.
Often, the ill fit is caused by a band that's too big around the rib cage. "Ninety percent of the support comes from the bra band," says Susan Nethero, owner of Intimacy boutiques and an expert bra fitter. "When the band doesn't fit snugly, it will ride up in the back and cause the straps to fall down. You shouldn't have to cinch down the shoulder straps to try to get more lift."
If your straps do slip off your shoulders, your band is too large. Buy a bra that fits snugly when clasped on the loosest hooks. (You'll use the tighter hooks as the bra stretches out over time.)
When the band is the right size, it should be firm around your rib cage, but you should still be able to comfortably slip a finger under it."
As a New Years' resolution, I want everyone to promise themselves to get yourself measured again and to take care of the girls! Nearly every lingerie store has free bra fitting so there is no excuse to not get this done.
Since we are talking about the girls, a gentle reminder to always remember to complete a self-exam and breastcancer.org has a great self-exam visual to help you out. Early detection is still the best medicine for curing breast cancer, so don't skip this important test.
