I'm short (5'3 on a good day) but I have curves, so most jeans don't fit me correctly at all. I always have that awful "back-gap," that's when you sit and your jeans gap at your waist or you are constantly tugging at your jeans when you stand up...ugh! So the reason that happens for most women is because we are born with curves! most peoples' waist naturally is smaller than their hips so most jeans don't account for that curve. My waist is significantly smaller than my hips so I have suffered with "back-gap" my whole life.
I've tried every pair of jeans from The Gap to 7 for Mankind and nothing would fit me correctly and required too many alterations. My friend suggested I try American Eagle and now I am hooked! They have different lengths and their "short" length is perfect for me and requires no hemming at all. The waistband of their jeans has an elastic built in so it adjusts to your waist and there's enough room for your hips to fit as well.
The jeans that I am in love with are the high-rise jegging. I like the look of jeggings and I have always loved a high-waisted pant because it highlights your legs and makes them look longer. Also, you don't have to worry about your butt falling out of your pants every time you bend down! I got the jeans in a light blue colour and although I had to get them taken in a little on the waist (my waist is tiny) they fit everywhere else perfectly. I had to go a size up than what I normally wear only because there are jeggings and so they are a little tighter. I've washed them a few times and they just go back to normal but I do pop them into the dryer so they can tighten a little bit after the wash. I absolutely love them and I recommend them to everyone who is on the curvier side.
I got the jeans in "bold curve." The jeans are divided into different curves and the sales associates are very helpful in selecting the right pair for you. The jeans come in slight, demi or bold curve and the type of curve depends on your problem area. For me, I discovered that I was a "Bold Curve" woman. The idea that a pair of jeans could actually fit my waist and not gap in the back was enticing, I also went down in a size since the sales associate told me that they get bigger with every wear; which they have.
The only reason I'm not a huge fan of the jeans is because they only come in skinny jeans and not jeggings. Also the colours of the jeans are very limited. The jeans only come in dark colours such as a dark blue or black. I bought the jeans in Indigo and although they look nice and give my butt a nice boost; they aren't as comfortable as the AE jeans above.
